Many kite schools organise kite trips to Vella island very often. The price may vary depending on the resort & kite schools between 35 to 55 eur
HOW IS THE WIND IN VELLA ISLAND?
In summer time the wind in Vella island is around 25-30 knots, 3-4 more knots than in Kalpitiya lagoon. From May to october be ready to bring small kites from 7 to 10 metres. In winter time the wind is lighter, around 16-18 knots
IS IT A KITE SPOT SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS?
Vella island is a good spot for advanced riders but not for beginners due to its off shore winds. If you are not able to edge properly and to ride upwind, Vella island is not your spot unless you want to end up in Wilpattu NAtional park, just in front of Vella.
